Abstract
If a query performance suddenly worsens, the immediate goal is to restore performance. Optimization hints can be a valuable tool for DBAs to restore query performance. The time to learn how to implement optimization hints is before a problem arises. This presentation provides customers with guidance on the practical implementation of optimization hints for DB2® for z/OS®.
Learn step by step instructions for implementing optimization hints for static and dynamic SQL. Overcome common pitfalls for implementing optimization hints such as changing statement numbers and prepared statement cache challenges. Learn how to completely validate hints. Learn about some hints versus alternatives such as catalog seeding and query tricks. This presentation adds a tool to the DBA's toolbox and helps the DBA keep the tool sharp, polished, and ready for use.
