DB2 UDB for z/OS Version 8 key improvements include 64-bit virtual storage support, removal of many old limitations in the definition of DB2 objects, SQL improvements, schema evolution, longer names for tables and columns, longer SQL statements, enhanced Java and Unicode support, enhanced utilities,and more log data sets. In this workshop we introduce significant performance and availability changes, as well as the performance characteristics of many new functions of DB2 UDB for z/OS Version 8.
Considerations based on lab measurements will help you understand the performance implications of migrating to DB2 V8 and using its new functions. The following topics are discussed:
SQL performance
DB2 subsystem performance
Availability and capacity enhancements
Utilities
Networking and e-business
Data sharing enhancements
Installation and migration
Performance tool
